First Final Fantasy Fourteen Fameplay Footage Found

After much hype, Final Fantasy XIV finally delivers some gameplay footage at Gamescom 2009.

What you can expect to see in the videos:

A Tarutaru Lalafell and a Hume Hyur running through San d’Oria a grassy woodland field in the fantasy world of Vana’diel Eorzea, auto-attacking some nearby enemies. The basic game uses the much hyped Crystal Tools, allowing for FMV to naturally blend into the gameplay itself.

Not addressed in the videos: How much grinding and timesinking an average player will have to do; If there will be a way for players and developers to communicate back and forth on some kind of forum; The existence of rare monsters in one area every 21-24 hours dropping the best loot in the game; And whether or not the devteam is going to continue to make the same goddamn mistakes they currently make in Final Fantasy XI.

Combat looks a little slow for melee characters. hopefully they speed it up, unless that’s turn based gameplay I’m seeing…In which case it’s awesome.

Valnen > The same gameplay as in FFXI :)

I’s supposed to look semi-turn based, yes. In FFXI your equipment and stats determine your attack/skill/spell/item speed. The same system, or a very close copy to the same turn based system, was later used in FFXII where your online friends were replaced with that games playable characters.

@Zephyer – I missed out on FFXI. I’ll be playing this game but I do wish they wouldn’t copy the FFXI battle system. I’d like something more…traditional and Final Fantasy like…
