Speculatron 2009: Simon’s Most Wanted For ’09 and Onward

Welcome to part 3 of One Last Continue’s Games of 2009 feature!  Take a look to see Simon’s picks for the games to keep an eye on for ’09Although we don’t know everything that’s to come for 2009, here’s some of the games I’m looking forward to:

ghostbusters

Ghostbusters: The Video Game (PS3/Xbox 360/Wii/everything else)
The 23 year old in me is screaming “NO!”, but the more powerful voice of the 8 year old in me is screaming “GOD YES!”  Ever since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to be a Ghostbuster, and now my dream can come true even if it’s just for a little bit. I wouldn’t be this excited if it wasn’t for Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis doing the actual Ghostbusters’ voices.

Operation Flashpoint 2 (PC/PS3/360)
The original OF was almost totally unique in its genre, and set the bar so high for other war FPS games that it hasn’t been matched even in the years since its release.  Its levels were the biggest out there, and the game looked absolutely fantastic for its time.  Being able to control anything you can find on the battlefield hadn’t been done before in a game like it either. Hopefully OF2 will live up to its predecessor.

Prototype/inFAMOUS/APB (PS3/360/PC)
Prototype and inFAMOUS share one common ground: they both feature rampant overuse of superpowers in a sandbox world, not unlike Realtime Worlds’ Crackdown, which has left a giant hole in the industry since its release since no other game like it has come out since then. Hopefully at least one of these games will beat Crackdown off of its throne.

Bioshock 2 (PS3/360/PC)
My Magic 8-Ball says that Bioshock 2 will have a 2010 release, and I really hope it’s right.  Bioshock shocked the world with its deep, complex story and fun gameplay.  Let’s just pray that Bioshock 2 isn’t just a clone or Take Two milking its new dairy cow.

Red Faction: Guerrilla (PS3/360/PC)
After playing the beta, I just haven’t been able to enjoy games with destructible environments nearly as much as I enjoyed RF:G.  Mindlessly hitting walls with a giant hammer was never this fun, especially not when the whole building collapses because you just destroyed all of its support beams.

halo3odst

Halo 3: ODST (360)
Although not a lot of info has come from Bungie after ODST‘s announcement, I’m really looking forward to what Bungie will do with their next game in the Halo universe.  However, I was really wishing they would actually do something special with the Halo 3 multiplayer, not just tack an exact copy of it onto ODST. That would be worth a purchase.

Mass Effect 2 (360/PC/?)
Well, there’s not much of anything know about this game.  There’s also not much to say about this one aside from the fact that I really hope the end of the year sees this game’s release.  Dragon Age is coming out this fall though, so it doesn’t seem as likely anymore.

Okay…that was it, short but sweet. I hope this year will be as interesting as the previous two.

And so ends part 3 of OLC’s Games of 2009 series!  Keep an eye out this week, as we’ve got more impressions, reviews of GTA4: The Lost and Damned and Street Fighter IV, and plenty more coming as the week progresses!  Thanks for reading!
