University: A Clear And Present Danger

Just like the headline of this short article says, there is indeed a clear and present danger. One albeit that affects myself, not the gaming industry and hopefully not OneLastContinue (too much).
Due to this danger, today I’m stepping away from OneLastContinue (for the immediate future) as the U.K/European Editor and instead I’l be focussing more on my Games Technology degree which I’ve realised today I desperately need to apply myself in a greater capacity. Last week Owen Good of Kotaku posted an article entitled “Why I Don’t Play World of Warcraft” to which I contributed the following text:
“There’s a simple reason why I no longer play World of Warcraft, I’ve got too much to lose in my life. Back in 2006, as a lowly college student, I managed to justify my then-addiction by claiming it was a way to unwind after a busy week. It was then that grades began to suffer. After a time I decided that enough was enough and the increasing workload was definitely more important than collecting animal pelts.”
In this case, those animal pelts are site redesigns, articles, news items, copy edits, Photoshop work, emailing PR contacts, reviews, conventions….the list goes on as any journalist or blog drone would know. This is that clear and present danger as today I had a slight freakout regarding the volume of work ahead. OneLastContinue, to me, must fade into the background for now.
This isn’t to say that I’m not proud what Phil Caron, Austin Walker and myself have done with OneLastContinue – I am, it’s been incredible to be honest to get where we are, were and likely will be again in terms of reach. The other folks who’ve worked with the editorial team on and off over the past year such as Simon Williams, Dave, Kapil, Matthew Bulleyment, Lucas Hannon, Rob Bunce, Jake Carter, Robert Mackie have all contributed greatly and whilst some more than others have contributed more it’s all appreciated from my perspective. I’ll still be kicking around OLC in some (extremely) limited capacity over the coming months as a degree, especially one so design focussed and practical, must and always shall take priority.
Coming up over the next while is a review of Blood Bowl on Xbox 360 which I received in the post today, Matthew Bulleyment will be handling review duties on that title so please look out for that soon. I’ll be back in January…don’t doubt that!
Finally, readers, if I have any left that is, I appreciate each and every click, scroll and comment you’ve left me across the past eleven months and hopefully I’ll be back someday to give you some of my words, which may or may not, make any sense. My mind is still constantly trying to find a way to juggle both these responsibilities but my heart’s answering “I’m sorry Mr. President, I don’t dance.”
