*UPDATED* Ubisoft Unleashes The Forgotten Sands On Warrior Within Prequel

After the reveal of the next entry in the highly regarded Prince of Persia series this past weekend Ubisoft may have inadvertently revealed the setting of this new title… ***UPDATE***

It appears, via Ubisoft Germany, that the title is actually a prequel to Warrior Within, released in 2004 on the last-gen formats.  The UK Ubisoft video portal has the following information with actual details of the story:

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is the next chapter in the fan-favorite Sands of Time universe. Visiting his brother’s kingdom following his adventure in Azad, the Prince finds the royal palace under siege from a mighty army bent on its destruction.

I’ve emailed a Ubisoft representative regarding this new information, maybe it’s a slip of the tongue but I’m excited to find out regardless.  In a way it makes sense….

Der Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands™ Ankündigungstrailer zeigt erste spektakuläre Bilder und präsentiert auf eindrucksvolle Art und Weise die Fähigkeit des Prinzen, die uralten Kräfte des Sands zu nutzen, um Herr über Natur und Zeit zu werden. The trailer will sweeten fans of Prince of Persia universe, the waiting time until the release of between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within playing Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands ™, which in May 2010 will be available in stores.

I emailed the staffer at Ubisoft Germany who posted the information and they had this to say via private message.

Please address the Ubisoft PR department of your country to get this kind of information.

Some seem to think that this entry takes place somewhere in the original Sands of Time trilogy (2003-2005) whereas the timing suggests that it’s actually a tie-in to the movie which is due for release on May 25th.  Right now nobody knows for sure except for, of course the folks, at Ubisoft.  Forum member dude527 has put up an in-depth analysis of the trailer with some pretty solid theories which you can read here.

Ubisoft have seen fit to send over the reveal trailer for the title, in glorious high definition no less, so you can study it in greater detail than I you did twelve hours ago.  We’ve been told that further details will be coming closer to the release window of May 2010 so let your theory generating commence!
