Breaking News: Square Enix, Eidos agree on buyout terms

eidosbig.pngIt looks like Square Enix president Yoichi Wada has finally made good on his promise to gain a foothold in the West.  After several attempts to buy out other studios, the Final Fantasy publishers have finalized a buyout deal with UK studio Eidos. The deal was originally announced as early as last month, with Eidos shareholders responding favorably to the prospect of a buyout, but no news on its status was known until today.  According to UK media site MCV, the buyout’s timeline stipulates that public trading of Eidos stock will be frozen next month, with the formal takeover occurring in May.

It remains to be seen what effect this buyout will have on Square Enix, Eidos, or the development community at large, but it’s definitely going to be interesting to see what Square does with the Tomb Raider franchise.
