EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis Screens And Information

Here’s our first look at the upcoming EA Sports release ‘Grand Slam Tennis’ for the Nintendo Wii. It’s one of EA’s sports titles (along with Tiger Woods 2010) that makes use of the upcoming MotionPlus attachment for the Wii Remote. The screens don’t have a great deal of variety but this may well be a case where gameplay outstrips graphical prowess, just like the old days! Here’s what we know so far!

  • Call Your Shots: Topspin, backspin – superior racket responsiveness and control makes it possible.
  • Pick Up and Play: If you can swing a racket, you can start playing at any Grand Slam venue as your own created player or as a current star or legend.
  • Grand Slam Career: Take your player on the journey to win the four Grand Slams.
  • Venues: As the only video game licensed to feature Wimbledon, users can play all four Grand Slams.  Authentic stadiums and venues are recognizable as the real grounds.
  • Wii MotionPlus™: One of the first video games compatible with Wii MotionPlus, taking the authentic one-to-one motion to a new level.  Spin your racket and control your in-game player with exact precision.
  • Shot Types: Highly responsive system detects a variety of shots.
  • Challenges: In your quest to win each Grand Slam, conquer the various challenges to accumulate more skills for your created player.
  • Online: Connect with other players online for new opponents and challenges.  More details to come!
  • Player Styles : Licensed pros play true to their actual playing styles, including all-court, defensive baseliner, offensive baseliner, and serve and volley

Also, here’s a statement from lead line producer Thomas Singleton talking about the depth of the gameplay experience you are going to find in Grand Slam Tennis.  To be honest, it sounds pretty good, even if it’s definitely not the best looking title available for Wii.

“One of the things that I love about the game is the fact that you’re in the spot light every time you step onto the court. Each player represents their country when they’re on that court and it brings that Olympic vibe to every tournament and every match. The risk-reward behind the big serve is something that is un-matched in many other sports. There can be so much on the line.  There are so many games within the game – serving, net play, even arguing with the umpire!”

Grand Slam Tennis for Nintendo Wii hits on June 18th, 2009.
