News: Square Enix Becomes Unicron, Eats Eidos

Well, it would appear that the times, they are a-changin’ over at Eidos HQ.  A few weeks ago, we reported that Square Enix and Eidos were discussing the terms of a potential buyout; those talks have concluded, and the takeover is official.  On April 21st, Eidos’ stock will be delisted from the exchange, and by May 6th, Eidos as we currently know it will be no more.  It’s currently unknown to what extent Square will control Eidos, whether their label will be expired, or if Square will even continue to use their new studio’s IP; they could give it semi-autonomy like they’ve given to Taito in the past, or they could execute more strict management.  However, it looks like Yoichi Wada’s plot to gain a foothold in the West has finally paid off.  Hopefully Eidos sees it that way too.
