Ready Up? All Night Long With Burnout Paradise For Charity!

A group of the most die-hard video gamers I’ve met hope to set a new world record and thereby break in to the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition, with a challenging 24-hour gaming marathon.

Staff of gaming website Ready Up are preparing to converge on Esc Gaming centre, Hope St, Glasgow on April 18, 2008 in order to set the ‘Longest Marathon Playing a Driving Game‘ record. Six people, backed up by their own support team, will play EA / Criterion’s Burnout Paradise over Xbox Live for a day and a night in front of Guinness’s official adjudicators. Being hardcore, the players will be allowed only short bathroom and eating breaks.

Participant and former Frag Doll Kirsten Kearney, who already holds a Guinness World Record for the First Person Shooter Marathon, said:

“Going for this kind of marathon gaming record is a lot harder than you might think. Keeping your morale up while concentrating on a screen and maintaining hand-eye coordination is tough, and you have to rely on using your second and third wind to help you through hardest going parts. It’s made easier by the fact that we have chosen a game like Burnout Paradise, which has a great deal of variety and fresh downloadable content that we can use.”

The record attempt will raise money in support of GamesAid, the new UK videogames industry charity, which distributes funds to a diverse range of children and young people’s charities.

On a personal note: I’ve vouched to destroy these records with a marathon of my own. It will happen one day – I’ve said it publicly to Kirsten herself. I’ve played Call of Duty 4 for almost 48 hours non-stop. I don’t really mean the record smashing – it’s just good old fashioned ribbing.

We here at One Last Continue wish our good friends over at Ready-Up the very best of luck with their marathon. Details on how you can help support their cause can be found at the following links!

Good luck guys and gals!

Yes have done a couple of 24hr lans, cant believe the record is only a day.. The Alienware 24hr lan in Melbourne for the release of COD WAW was great, but i think me and a few friends only made it 16 hrs or so, there were three powerouts through the night as 100PC’s using 1000watt power supplies and 100XBox consule’s drained the university’s power switch.. A firetruck had to come at 3am as a power switch caught fire… around the same time a bit of rain and wind made playing conditions rough….
but it will never ever stop the hardcores.. this record once set officially will be broken repeatedly in the coming years. Be sure of that…. Just ask any of us at the 45th Tigers… records are made to be broken!!!

Im sure we could organise a GamesAid charity event in Aussie to break their record…….though you’d probably have to screen the compedators TO LIMIT NUMBERS!! lol
