Custom Soundtracks: How Do You Use Them?

crackdownboxartIt’s no secret that my favorite feature this generation isn’t online play, DLC, friends lists, or anything of the sort; it’s something much smaller, and much more personal.  That something happens to be custom soundtracks.  Online play I can take or leave, and DLC has generally hurt far more than it’s helped; custom soundtracks, on the other hand, I can find no fault with.  There’s just something intensely liberating about not being tethered to a game’s soundtrack if you don’t want to be.  This is especially helpful, to me at least, when playing particularly repetitive games (like Earth Defense Force 2017, for example) or playing online, when I’m trying to drown out the endless downpour of idiotic four-year-olds who shouldn’t even be playing the game in the first place.  It’s also fun to give some musical backdrop to a game that didn’t have it before, like Crackdown.  While playing Crackdown with the music on shuffle, I was surprised to find that the theme from Kill Bill syncs up perfectly with the open world chaos that makes the game so fun to play.

What about all of you?  Any special custom soundtrack quirks you have?  Do you always boot up a specific song when your team is about to win a match in Halo 3?  Do you even use them?  Let us know!

Honestly, never bothered. I generally consider the standard soundtrack is fine, and probably suits the game better than mine. That, and I probably can’t be bothered.

  3. Not really my thing, with soundtracks generally being more and more an important part of the game (prob because they dont want you turning it off) I feel that there really isnt a need. It is a good idea though and im sure that people who use it get a kick out of it!

I play PC games with my music in the background for online games. Half-Life I keep the music because that tells me when the Combine’s a coming. Usually I go with music off, and sound effects on loud enough I can hear them over the music. Then I kick ass to the Andy Griffith show theme.
