This Time, Batman Breaks You, In New Arkham Asylum Combat Trailer

Just watch the thing. I swear that ridiculous title will makes sense once you check out this impressive new action oriented trailer for Rocksteady’s upcoming Dark Knight title.

I’m a harsh critic and a consummate skeptic, but truth be told I can’t help but think that this looks amazing. The combat is reminiscent of Assassin’s Creed’s, fluid and rhythmic, but has a touch of Condemed’s high-velocity brutality. I know trailers are crafted to present the most appealing slice of a game and its feature set, but I can’t help but grin when I see the Caped Crusader flow from one attack to another, ending with those breathtaking judo counters.

As a gamer and comic fan, I’m doing my best to not get excited at all. After all, I’ve played each and every one of the bad Batman titles. The empiricist in me says that the data we have shows that representing the Batman’s specific blend of action and detection is undoable, but maybe, just maybe, no one has had the guts or the time or the publisher backing to really give it a shot. Maybe Batman: Arkham Asylum will turn things around.

I’m watching you closely Rocksteady. Don’t let me down.
