The Indie Hour: Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup

I’ve got a love for indie games, have had for years now. Among those are the classics such as Zombie Survival Crisis and Dwarf Fortress, I’ll be talking more about those some other time, today though -  it’s Dungeon Crawl!

Dungeon Crawl is like exploring a dungeon in Dungeons & Dragons, except you do it alone. This might sound strange and boring, but I assure you that it’s a lot more fun than it seems. You start out the game choosing a race and a class for your character and there are plenty of different choices that’ll let you create your own unique character.

Your goal is to go all the way to the lowest levels of the dungeon in order to retrieve the magic orb of Zot and bring it out with you to safety. Might sound easy enough, but I haven’t been able to do this or at least see the orb. Actually I haven’t heard of anyone getting out with the orb at all! Although, saying that, I’ve seen screen grabs of people who found it. But hey it’s a fun game anyway; your characters, living or dead, will be recorded once the adventure ends. And as a bonus, on the scoreboard you’ll be able to see how they died and how much gold your loot is worth.

My only word of advice, is that if you’re in trouble, hit “return” on your keyboard to see the list of commands for the game. It can be a bit difficult to get started otherwise. The game is worth playing at any point when you have 5 minutes to kill and it’s possible to exit the game and save your progress at any time. There’s not much else to say about the game. It’s all about experimenting with new combination’s of races, classes and gods to find what works. Usually though, you find out what doesn’t.

The game can be downloaded at here! Happy crawling…
