Arkham Asylum’s Combat Still Looks Good in This Free Flow Combat Walkthrough

The Dark Knight. The Caped Crusader. One Half of the Dynamic Duo. “Bats.” Whatever you call him, you better not get on his bad side. This latest video walkthrough from developer RockSteady shows off some of his best moves.

I’ve written numerous times about how the combat in Batman: Arkham Asylum reminds me of Assassin’s Creed‘s rhythmic battle choreography, and it should be no surprise that this latest video is redundant. It’s selling me a feature I already want for a product I’m already signed up to buy. That said, boy do I love this salesmanship.

Batman has been in his string of awful titles. It’s tricky to nail the detective, stealth, and gadgets angles (something that RockSteady convinced me they could pull off in this previous trailer), but the combat side of Batman is difficult to pin down too. He’s not as acrobatic as Spider-Man, not as hard hitting as Supes, and needs to bridge the gap between near mythical avenger and “human wearing his underpants on the outside.” RockSteady’s usage of counters, reversals, cinematic camera angles, and the implementation of gadgets inside of combat is impressive.

Even if the title has been delayed, I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Check back in with us when the game launches to get our full critique of Batman: Arkham Asylum.
