New Metal Gear News In Next Week’s Famitsu PS3?
As we all know, Kojima Productions is counting down to a reveal of a new title; the countdown timer ends in roughly nine hours, but rumor has it another will soon take its place. Has Japan’s 7-11 spoiled the announcement for everyone? Count this under rumor for the time being, but one clever poster on NeoGAF has uncovered something quite interesting.
On 7Andy, the Japanese retail arm of 7-Eleven, a listing has been put up for next week’s issue of Famitsu PSP + PS3, set to hit store shelves on May 30th. Listed in the table of contents is what translates, literally, to “New Metal Gear”. Could Kojima’s next project be a Playstation game? He’s already developed multiple PSP games, and the engine that powers Metal Gear Solid 4 was certainly not cheap to produce; it would make sense for Kojima’s next game to appear on either system. With the countdown timer ticking away and no hints appearing as of yet, it seems the best thing gamers can do is to wait and see how this all turns out; after all, E3 starts in less than two weeks, and this supposed issue of Famitsu lands in Japan two days before the show. Rest assured, if anything comes of this strange rumor, we’ll be right on top of it.

with the current state of the economy, particularly in gaming, if indeed this rumor is true.. that a new MGS would indeed be exclusive… that would be a huge deal. Kojima has not been so eager to have mgs4 multiplatted. so to do another exclusive deal, with sony… that would be a huge bonus for the PS3. it would scream” wanna play MGS? buy a ps3!”
now, common sense, and business practice would have me think that KP would go multiplat to make more monies like everyone else has. and these countdowns are def brewing up the storm for E3. perhaps Kojima may be happy with MGS4 sales (about 4 million mark). questions of system requirements may ultimately decide whether he will go multiplat, which for the record hes has not even hinted at doing so…. which just creates more fever for E3.
Metal Gear Acid! 3 for PSP?
MGS5 starring Raiden? for PS3?
Fap-worthy indeed :)
if exclusiveness does stand those would be my educated guesses.
but like the rest of the world, im crossing my fingers for ZOE3 :P if that gets announced, i dont care for anything else, aside from a real TEam Ico unveiling of next game.
E3 isn’t here soon enough.
I doubt any title bearing MGS will go to other home consoles. Sure they may sell a bit more but the added cost of developing for multiple home consoles and limiting the game to fit on the ‘other’ major console would not work for Kojima. It wouldn’t work for us gamers either, so talk about it but it will NEVER happen.
The thing to remember about Exclusitivity, is that Kojima is not “everyone else”…He does not compromise quality for money. Not to mention his last few Multiplat MGS titles did not do too well [MGS2:Substance on the XBOX, and MGS: Twin Snakes on the GameCube”… I think he know’s where his fanbase is. If Kojima was bent on sales he would have released MGS4 on both systems from the get go. I’m not going to say that whatever this title is will be Exclusive, because you’re right, with this economic situation it would be nice to expand your fanbase. But at the same time there is absolutely no way to perfect a single title of this caliber on to two different systems. There are just too many that would complain about whose is better.
I thought that everyone agreed that there wouldn’t be another MGS yet? I would be surprised if they were to announce MGS5 on PS3 but I definitely don’t think that it will be anything related to Xbox.
I’m guessing that given all the recent hoopla over the upcoming PSP renaissance, and some supposedly new artwork from Ashley Wood, that this is probably all leading to a sequel to Portable Ops on the PSP! There are definately many things KojiPro can do to make the PSP MGS better, and I bet it’ll be as amazing as the leap from Ac!d to Ac!d^2! I’m also personally hoping there’ll be an Ac!d^3 sometime! Now hopefully KojiPro will hurry up and release MGS:DGN2 here as well!
I think it unlikely that a new Metal Gear would be multi-platform. Since Kojima is once again involved in the business side of things, he’ll have greater representation for his own ideologies. However, I do expect something a little off-beat—perhaps either on the PSP or DSi.
Or this could all be a very, very grandiose way of announcing DLC or some sort of addendum to Metal Gear Solid 4.
SO is there going to be a Metal Gear Solid 5 for ps3? Because I am buying Metal Gear Solid 4 tomorrow. It would be terrible to buy 4, then watch 5 come out? Someone please tell me, thanks =]
Will there be a Metal Gear Solid 5 coming out for ps3? Because I am going to buy Metal Gear Solid 4 tomorrow. I would get angry buying 4, then watching 5 come out. Someone please tell me =], thank you
to zanzibarlegend basically metal gear solid 4 sold enough copies to justify a metal gear solid 5 being exclusive. you cite the economy as a reason for multiplat, well w/ the existing metal gear engine being optimized for ps3 it wouldnt require near the budget of metal gear 4 to make metal gear 5. infact i think’d it be more of a risk to get another team together just for the xbox version.
@Jes The king –
Nobody knows yet. Go play 4 first, enjoy the story, and then be surprised with everyone else whenever this new game gets announced. :P
Even if it is mgs5 it wont be out for a year or two. How long were they doing previews of mgs4
Kk Thank you, because It would be pretty funny if i buy mgs 4, and 5 comes out the next day :p. I will buy 4 tomorrow, btw, is the online good? Thanks
@Jes The king –
It’s alright. It’s not a game-seller, that’s for sure. Worry about the story and the stealth, that’s what MGS is all about anyway.
DO YOU THINK IT’S WORTH IT BUYING MGS 4 NOW?, or should I buy another game? Because I wanted to buy Midnight Club La, and mgs 4 tomorrow.
Thanks
Lol hey again, I just heard that Infamous is coming out in like 5 days, should I not buy mgs 4 and buy infamous? Or should I buy mgs 4?
Thanks!
ok….so you guys were right….
As of now, its 9:40pm in Toronto , thursday may 21st 2009 and as predicted, the second counter on the Kojima web site has indeed started.
All you see is 199:19:45……
Now if the projection is on track for 30th may 2009 then this counter should run out ..
therefore—–>199/24 = 8.29166 days….not sure how many hours that is (here is some thing for you to figure out…..!)
hence the counter should run out as projected.
It seems you guys are on track……
Good luck
I say Buy MGS4. It is seriously one of the best games ever made. The graphics are jaw dropping. There is a part where you’re on the back of the a motorcycle. And it makes every other game that ever did something similar look like it was on Atari. And that is not to say anything about the story which is great. About the only negative thing is that some of the cut scenes last like an hour and a half. A couple have like 3 save points during them. But thy let you pause them if you need to walk away. So, definitely buy MGS4
@jukins – i coudnt agree more, kojima has been stedfast in his support of the sony console… unlike square -stares-. but crazy things have happened so im just exploring those possibilities.
not to be a fanboy, but MGS5 on PS3 will only help solidify the PS3 as a console in the future. that coupled with a price drop, and you know kojima can pull off the same numbers again… maybe even moreso.
Even though loads of people say mgo2 sucks, it was the most addicting online game i played. The reason being is i bought it when mgs4 first came out so i am one of the best players on mgo. Not anymore though cause my ps3 got ylod. On my best night of survival too! If your just starting on mgo your a fly buzzing around just annoying people not doing any harm. everyone else is a human with a 20 ft fly swatter. It took me about 5months to master headshots with a gun across the map, and to defeat a team of lagswitchers by myself. I just gave up on my ps3 maybe ill buy one again if this count down ends up being mgs5 actually i will definitly buy one again. Hopefully mgo will live on! and there will be a mgo3. i love games with online fuctionality.
