Square Enix’s New Action Game Is Nier

nierannounceNo, that’s not a typo you’re reading.  Square Enix’s mystery action game, first teased in the pages of the Official Playstation Magazine, is titled Nier, which is French for “To Deny”.

This OXM scan, courtesy of Playstation Lifestyle, has the first concrete details on this ephemeral title that has managed to evade announcement for several months on end.  Nier is an action game along the lines of Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry, a 3D action game based on combo attacks and devastating finishing moves.  The difference, however, seems to be that the game is based around a coherent plot!  The main character, as of yet unnamed, is – brace yourselves, Square fans – an adult, in his late 30s even, searching for a cure for an illness his daughter has contracted.  Doesn’t sound like a story about the power of friendship to me.  Nier is slated for a 2010 release on XBOX 360 and PS3, so we should expect details and a more formal announcement of the game at E3.  Consider my interest piqued.

Pfft. You can’t just assume it’s going to be coherent.

you can’t even assume that the main char is 30yr’s old, he might be his daughter transformed into a 30yr old man saving himself metaphorically

And Coherent is out of the running. . .
