Good Old Games Brings You Tex Murphy

tex

In a move clearly designed to forever secure themselves an eternal seat in Gamer Valhalla*, GOG.com has continued their never ending quest to bring you kickass games of a by-gone era by adding the Tex Murphy series to their lineup.

Relics from a time when telling a compelling story carried more weight that graphics, (or, in some cases, gameplay) the Tex Murphy games follow the titular character through a series Sci-Fi/Noir mystery adventures. Thought the gameplay and graphics are dated, there’s still plenty to love about these titles… they really just don’t make em like this any more. When’s the last time you played a game and really felt taken in by the story, like you were sitting down to enjoy a good book?

So, if you find yourself in the mood for a trip down memory lane, want to try an “oldie-but-goodie”, or just want to marvel at what years of hard drinking and heavy smoking did to Margot Kidder by 1994  (in “Under a Killing Moon”), go check out GOG.com. Space Odin commands it.

Oh, one other note for you Tex fans… did you know that Aaron Conners and Chris Jones (the series creators) have re-acquired the rights to the Tex games after years of legal limbo? Yes, they have. And the website for their new company, Big Finish Games says they are at work on some secret thing called “Project Fedora”. I wonder what that could be….

* like regular Valhalla, but with more raid gear

I owned both Mean Streets and The Pandora Directive (Actually, 2 copies of mean streets, and I probably still have the Pandora Directive. Awesome games, greatly missed their style of storytelling. May have to pick these up.
