Capcom Launches Most Pointless Teaser Website Ever

Just as celebrity deaths always seem to come in groups, new game teasers also seem to launch in multitude.  Square Enix launched a countdown website last night, and now Capcom has done the same…only this time, it’s not a countdown.

Capcom’s new teaser website consists, literally, of the number 1560 superimposed on a black screen with the sounds of wind blowing in the background.  That’s it.  No countdown, no hints, just a single number.  However, it is important to note that 1560 is a number that plays a significant part in one of Capcom’s long-running franchises; Onimusha.  The year 1560 is notable for containing the historic Battle of Okehazama, where a fledgeling Oda Nobunaga defeated the warlord Imagawa Yoshimoto and began his ascent to eventually conquer a large portion of feudal Japan.  It’s also important because this battle served as the starting point for the Onimusha series.

Could we be looking at a potential Onimusha reboot or prequel?  Well, unlike Kojima and Square Enix, Capcom’s been “gracious” enough not to give us a countdown, so we’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for the eventual reveal.

UPDATE: A little bit of sleuthing has revealed that a link to this teaser site appears on Capcom’s official page for the Sengoku Basara series.  While nothing is really confirmed (it could be a bizarre bit of cross-marketing, as Basara is considerably more relevant in Japan at the moment than Onimusha), this teaser just got a whole lot more complicated.

  1. It’s most likely to be Basara 3. It even appeared on Kobayashi Hiroyuki Kobayashi’. Either a prequel setting at Okehazama (young Nobunaga :D) or the addition of new characters born on 1560 (namely Ishida Mitsunari and Naoe Kanetsugu).
