The Bat Behind the Scenes: Arkham Asylum Dev Diary #1

Developers Rocksteady have been doing a great job at building hype for what might be the best Batman title ever made. Today they took a step into my favorite little PR invention: The developer diary.

Why do I like the dev diary format so much? Well, unlike interviews with the game’s lead producer or director (in this case Sefton Hill), this style of hype-video does its best to get you involved with a handful of people that contributed to make the game you play. Maybe it’s my distaste for auteur theory, which aims to credit a project’s lead for its entire worth. Here we get to see not only Sefton Hill, but also writer Paul Dini (who has consistantly done great work in comics with the Dark Knight for years now, and wrote a number of the Batman: The Animated Series episodes), and Paul Crocker, the Lead Narrative Designer. They give a brief summary of what we basically all know: Stuck in Arkham, Batman is up against his deadliest foes, and the whole thing has been orchestrated by the Joker.

I’m willing to admit it, I’ve bought a ticket to this hype train, and will enjoy the ride all the way to eventual joy or disappointment. What about you?
