Battle Fantasia: Enchanting the PSN This Fall
Those of you who’re deeply embroiled in BlazBlue might not remember that Arc System Works actually released another fighting game earlier this generation; Battle Fantasia released last year in the US, but only for the XBOX 360.
However, the game was actually developed (and released) on the PS3 as well in Japan, and its European release is also multiplatform. While no official reasoning was given for the PS3 version’s lack of a release in the States, it seems that will no longer be an issue. Siliconera has confirmed today that Battle Fantasia will indeed be hitting the PS3 this fall, but with one minor catch. Instead of being released as a retail disc title like its XBOX 360 counterpart and its successor BlazBlue, Battle Fantasia will instead be launched exclusively as a digital download title on the PSN.
For those not in the know, Battle Fantasia is a heavily stylized 2.5D fighting game by Arc System Works that features a fantasy setting influenced by Japanese and Western RPGs; a rather unique setting for a genre largely populated by karate men and wrestlers. Battle Fantasia wears its RPG influences on its sleeve, utilizing not only the typical fighting game life bar, but also a numerical HP count for each character during battle, as well as several other RPG-like touches. It also sports (much like BlazBlue) a full length story mode alongside the online and offline versus mode.
While no release date or pricing information has been given regarding the PSN version of Battle Fantasia, a representative from Aksys Games has confirmed that the PSN version will feature “a few surprises” upon release.
