Holy Crap! New Mechwarrior Game Announced.
Get ready for one hundred tons of whoop-ass as earlier today developers Piranha Games and Smith & Tinker announced a new game based on the Mechwarrior franchise.
While neither studio has a particularly inspiring pedigree, Smith & Tinker is headed up by Jordan Weisman, whose name is synonymous with bad-ass pen and paper RPGs. Weismen was one of the co-founders of the FASA Corporation, a pen and paper RPG house that gave us such legendary properties as Shadowrun and Battletech, both of which Weisman worked on.
As of this writing, the game’s developers are still shopping around for a publisher, and the game is still relatively early in development. What we do know for sure is that this new title turns back the clock on the Battletech universe to the year 3015, the dawn of the Fourth Succession War. The game is being built on top of the Unreal 3 engine, which should go a long way towards delivering impressive visuals. Unlike the most recent console Mechwarrior titles, the action looks to take place entirely in the first person, from a cockpit view. The developers hope to include 4 player co-op, as well as cross platform multi-player between Xbox 360 and PC. Sorry, PS3 owners, but it doesn’t look like this one is coming your way yet.
Expect more details as they become available!
