Rumor: Randy “The Ram” Robinson Coming to Smackdown vs. Raw?

Randy “The Ram” Robinson, a.k.a Mickey Rourke’s titular character from 2008′s hit movie The Wrestler, is rumored to be heading to a console near you in Yuke’s next yearly installment of the WWE video game SmackDown vs. Raw.

To summarize, the movie stars an aging professional wrestler long past his prime and striving the pains of reality when he gets one last chance at the ring and glory. The role has been credited with revitalizing Rourke’s career and netting him an Oscar nomination.

While some of the licensing issues make this sound somewhat doubtful, a fact which adds to the legitimacy of this claim is that Rourke has previously worked with Vince McMahon and his entertainment powerhouse already this year. Rourke recently feuded with rockstar/wrestler Chris Jericho in an storyline which pitted Jericho lashing out against several aging superstars from the WWF’s (WWE’s) golden age of wrestling. The angle ended with the actor coming out of the crowd after Jericho’s WrestleMania match and dropping him with a punch. When a new SvR title emerges it usually is based around the major events of the WrestleMania past so either way an appearance would not be considered canon busting.

We’ve sent a request over to SvR publisher THQ for a strong confirmation or denial to our rumor watch here, and shall keep you updated with any further updates we happen to receive.

Meanwhile, Rourke has been officially confirmed for his own game, Rogue Warrior, in which he will be providing his voice as the main character, Richard “Demo Dick” Marcinko.
