Rumor: Is Street Fighter IV Championship Edition Upon Us?
Might want to run down to GameStop while the supply is still high, because they’re current running a brow raising special on Street Fighter IV. Dropping the highly acclaimed titles price in half. But why the sudden change?

The wild price drop hit the gaming wire this morning, and came as a stunner of an announcement everywhere. Gamestop are now selling new copies of Street Fighter IV for PS3 and Xbox 360 release for a new low price of 19.99. While price drops rarely generate such buzz, this one has built up some chatter for two good reasons. The first is the sheer amount of discount applied to the title. Up until last week, the lowest you could get the award winning fighter for was about $40 bucks, and with little warning, Gamestop dropped the price in half over night. With no mention of this in their weekly ad, and with no honest build up to such a price drop, this reporter cannot go without wondering what exactly is going on.
My thoughts are more of the opinion that Capcom formally asked Gamestop to dump off its remaining Street Fighter IV stock off in place of an upcoming, upgraded and most of all unannounced re-release of SFIV. This really should come as no surprise to anyone given how the original Street Fighter II had no less than five sequential follow ups to it, and others in the Street Fighter franchise have been following with upgraded sequels of their own for years with each new release adding new characters, arenas and features to the already highly acclaimed series. So who’s to expect anything different with the release of Street Fighter IV?
Another take on this, is that it comes just in time with Capcom’s re-release of their late 90’s hit Marvel Versus Capcom 2 tomorrow on XBLA, and PSN on August 13th. While many would argue that such a price drop could actually dampen the buzz surrounding the re-release, it could very well be in Capcom’s bag of tricks to attempt to move as many copies of Street Fighter IV as possible in expectation for a major drop off in sales post MvC2 release.
I’m following this one pretty hard and invite you guys to stay tuned here for further updates.
