gamescom 2009: Square-Enix & Eidos
One Last Continue are heading to gamescom 2009 in Cologne, Germany next month with beer money and cake. So are Square-Enix and Eidos, but what are they bringing to the party?
Turns out that they, collectively known as Square-Enix Europe, are bringing quite a lot to the event in fact with Final Fantasy XIV seemingly their headline attraction. Whilst nothing has been seen of the gameplay itself since the title was announced at E3 last month, and I might add in what can only be described as a shock announcement for PlayStation 3 and PC, we expect to see something of substance this time around. With the game planned for release sometime in 2010 with a simultaneous global release with language support in German, French, English and Japanese all eyes will be on Square-Enix at gamescom.
On the Eidos side of SE-Europe we hope to get a hands on look at the upcoming, and much anticipated, Batman: Arkham Asylum. I know Austin Walker has been looking forward to this title immensely so hopefully we have some great news to share as we’ll also have the chance to experience a selection of the game’s extensive FreeFlow Combat and Invisible Predator Challenge Maps. Also playable will be one of the eight maps that allow fans to play as The Joker, so hopefully we shall discover it’s not just a case of re-skinning Batman and there’s more depth to the character and gameplay. After all, when was free DLC any good?
Other titles announced for the event include:
- Nier
- Final Fantasy XIII
- Dissidia Final Fantasy
- Order of War
- Supreme Commander 2
You folks can check out the line up on their official gamescom 2009 site linked below. Look forward to our thoughts on them next month!
