I repair the Yellow Light of Death and it is a very real and serious manufacture defect. It is caused by the failure of the BGA points underneath the GPU. The GPU runs at a very high temperature (put your hand at the back of the console to see how hot). Even the new Slim models are suffering from the problem because Sony deny there is a problem. The failure seems to be happening 18 months to 3 years after purchase. This fault is covered by the Sales of Goods Act 1979 as it is clearly a manufacture defect.
Reply

Thanks for the review, I just saw the complete one and I felt cheering after it. I've seen the first edition two times (some years ago) and I couldn't really understand the movie, and yeah, I wasn't too impressed.
So thanks for the review.
I have Peace Walker and it is awesome!

It has great characters! I love Strangelove, Amanda, Cécile and Paz! :D The story behind Cécile is very interesting! I mean not just the character but also her name...hehe

Also, superb gameplay! Like always...there are new, different weapons and items to use. The stealth gun is a great addition. Fulton Recovery makes recruiting soldiers a lot easier than in MGS:PO.

Huge and awesome boss fights! MGS is always among the best (if not the best) when it comes to boss fights. And, torture returns! With a twist! ;)

Voice work is very good! This game has lots and lots of optional dialogue! Lots of secret stuff. Some rather serious and others very humorous. Like other MGS games there is a level of mischief and fun naughtiness in it! XD You will definitely learn more about The Boss and EVA!

And, in terms of gameplay time. Peace Walker by far has the most! So many optiional missions and outer ops! I think it actually has more game time than the other MGS games.

I also find ZEKE very cool!

MGS:PW is a game that hardcore gamers can love. There are some truly challenging missions! Not to mention the optional Monster Hunter missions! So, much to do if you are a completionist and want 100%.

Music is also outstanding! And, similar to MGS4. It has a Sony Walkman. Where you can choose the background music. Oh, I love Paz's singing! Did anyone else see the video! XD

I give it an A or a 9.5/10 as I had the version with the sweet 60 page artbook. Some lucky people have the special MGS:PW PSP.

Btw, Kojima says he is working on a "Taboo" game. I wonder what he means....
Reply

I know this is old but....

A lot of games have already broken taboo:

http://www.gamesradar.com/wii/f/10-taboos-and-the-games-that-broke-them/a-20100528125813753035/g-20060308165433320026

Sex, violence, vulgarity, etc...

But, games aren't art. They are big business. That is why you see almost nothing but shooters, sports/racing and music games.

In reality few developers want to deal with controversy.

This article actually forgets to mention Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat. Two of the most controversial titles at the time. Violent and graphic murder of your opponent in MK with the fatalities. Decaptiation and cannibalism in RE. Nowadays, no one seems to make a fuss anymore. In fact, more people were talking about RE5 being set in Africa rather than complaining about the level of violence.

And, even though it mentions MGS....it fails to mention it for a better reason. Torture! MGS series is the first series to make a torture scene and make it like a survival mini-game challenge. MGS Peace Walker also has a female who does the torture. Although, this isn't the first time....there was that sadist Veronica. The dominatrix from Shadow Hearts: Covenant. She enjoyed torturing your characters in a nasty looking chamber.

These are all very popular games. Well, maybe not SH:C. But, breaking taboo can be both art and good business at the same time. But, very few developers are willing to do this.

I agree with Zanzibarlegend! I wish developers would take more risks. The only revolutionary things in gaming nowadays come on the hardware side. The software developers, for the most part, have become lazy....very lazy. Or they are timid.

Kojima is one of the only developers that manages to push the boundaries, make games like art and still succeed with sales.

I wish developers would also a lot of diversions and diversionary gameplay into their games. That is what Kojima does. Games need more creative and taboo secrets and easter eggs.

I mean some games even have full graphic sex and nudity. Just look at Heavy Rain! You can choose for the main character Ethan to have sex with Madison. Or you can choose for him to reject her advances.
Extremely rare in video games.

Sorry for rambling.
Reply

@Steven

It's a fair comment, and there are people that think they can play guitar just because they play Guitar hero/Rock Band etc, but on the flip side - there are people that have been inspired to learn an instrument solely because of the franchise.

I personally had no interest in playing an instrument until I bought Guitar Hero 3 for PS2. After that I bought a real guitar, I'm absolutely hopeless at playing it - but the games motivated me to give playing a real instrument a go.
Reply

There is one solution to this entire franchise, allow lazy untalented people to actually pick up an instrument and get their ass in gear.

Ok its fun with some friends, but I can imagine kids spending their evenings THINKING they can play like Jimmy Page when in fact they are completely utterly wasting their time. Its like the dance machine game, for your hands.

Never bought the products, and never believed in them. I kind of resent them too.
